In the past Le Pont de la Tour has been justly accused of resting on its laurels, a view backed by very mixed reviews from readers. However, things have ‘greatly improved’ in the last year, with a new head chef leading a rejuvenated kitchen. Simple, classic dishes are executed with aplomb: full marks go to a sublime Colchester lobster bisque & perfectly cooked loin & shoulder of lamb with potato fondant, while, for dessert, a sharing platter that includes white chocolate mousse with passion fruit & coconut sorbet is a worthy investment. Service is smoothly professional, with special plaudits for the informed presentation of the excellent cheeseboard & the quirky wine recommendations. Throw in a picture-postcard view from the riverside terrace & it looks like Le Pont de la Tour is seeing a return to form.
